Bothell, WA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/14/2014 -- Seattle area Architect, Carl Colson,(carlcolsonarchitect.com) designed quite a prestigious project when he created the design for Arbor Village. This mixed use project is one of the reasons that the City of Mountlake Terrace received the Governor's 2014 Smart Communities Award from the Puget Sound Council. Governor Jay Inslee signed the award. This is Mountlake Terrace’s first statewide planning award.

Arbor Village attracted a lot of positive attention to Mountlake Terrace, because it revitalized the town center and made it a more favorable place to live and do business. It boasts 123 residential units, and 10,000 s.f. of retail space, as well as 168 car parking garage. Residents can easily visit Seattle, because the building is conveniently located by the new Park-n-Ride transit center.

The Puget Sound Council is a group of regional Planning and Transportation Agencies that supervise the growth and development of Central Puget Sound. Their mission is to make sure that Central Puget Sound remains an area of flourishing communities for generations to come. The Governor's Smart Communities Award reaffirms their success.

This is what Seattle Architect Carl Colson had to say about the award:

“I’m very happy that Governor Jay Inslee has recognized the diligent work of the Puget Sound Council and the improvement of the City of Mountlake Terrace. Arbor Village has given the Town Center the attention it deserves and I’m so very pleased to be the architect who designed it. At the current moment it’s nearly 100% occupied and has inspired more plans for mixed-use developments in the Town Center of Mountlake Terrace. The residents of Mountlake Terrace also deserve a lot credit. They gave their time and input during public meetings, workshops, and internet surveys. The Town Center has prospered under the vision of the community. I would also like to thank Weber Thompson Architects for providing professional Architect of Record services during this project. As you can see , the revitalization of the the City of Mountlake Terrace has truly been a community effort. I hope this city can serve as an example of what’s possible for other cities in the process of redevelopment.”
