It's the equivalent of a new IPhone launch. The latest buzz in the RV market is the Airstream Basecamp trailer, which is actually a redesign and relaunch of the Basecamp trailer. The revival gives campers a sleeker, more lightweight and compact way of Airstreaming their way to outdoor adventures.
Airstream is launching then updated design as the market has become ripe for the small, sleek Basecamp, perfect for the younger weekend warriors and outdoor adventurers.
Airstream's design seems responsive to the crossover utility vehicle market and took leadership from the small trailer/camper renaissance that has occurred throughout the RV industry over the past few years. The new Basecamp joins the likes of the Winnebago concept vehicle camper van, Taxa trailer and Tepui White Lightning roof tent, all introduced over the past several months.
The targeted Airstream Basecamp buyer isn't your V8 pickup truck power seeker, so they needed a trailer small enough to tow behind the crossover. The smaller yet super savvy interior space isn't a big deal because this buyer doesn't want to spend the entire trip inside an aluminum shell watching TV, anyway. This is the RVer who wants to get parked at the most unique campsite or trailhead ASAP, get out of the vehicle and spend the day outside hiking, surfing, biking, climbing or adventuring. The trailer serves as a place to have a meal and sleep away an exciting day.
The Basecamp Buzz has dealers taking preorders as they will start appearing at Airstream dealerships in October, and new reservations are being taken now. The trailer's price, which now starts around $34,900, which appears to be the perfect fit for the target buyer.
Southaven RV has ten unsold units expected to arrive sometime around the first week of October. "The excitement is certainly out there. We are noticing an increase in calls and people can't wait to come tour the new Basecamp" says Jeff Turnbow, Southaven RV and Marine's CMO.
