Standing Tall: Living History Book Showcases Individuals' Immediate Response to Events of 9/11

Everybody remembers where they were and what they were doing on the morning of September 11th 2001. While that day’s events are now colored by the geopolitical response to the attacks, a newly-released book shares the immediate emails, journal entries and creative writings that individuals around the world created immediately after hearing the harrowing news.

New York, NY -- (ReleaseWire) -- 01/15/2014 -- Nobody will forget where they were when they heard ‘the news’. Lynn Manuell’s ‘Standing Tall: The Emails, Journals, Creative Writings and Articles of 9/11/2001’ shares the immediate response, thoughts and experiences of people around the world, as the news of 9/11 unfolded.

Cutting through time and retrospect, this most unique book acts as a powerful piece of living history; ‘Standing Tall’ reveals the fortitude and passion which were so evident on that clear and crisp New York morning.

Synopsis:

Do you remember where you were the morning of September 11, 2001?

When we think back and talk with others about what happened that morning, the familiar question always arises, “Where were you and what did you experience?” Standing Tall details the accounts of people from all over the world as they share their thoughts and experiences on the morning of September 11th, 2001. Standing Tall gives an exceptional response from professional writers, composers, military personnel, and a pacifist struggling to come to terms with what that moment would bring. We hear from a twelve year old girl attempting to make sense of something so inconceivable, we also are given firsthand accounts from people inside the towers, and volunteers who gave up everything to be there

While compiled shortly after 9/11, Manuell did not want to release the book too soon. Now that this composition has become a part of living history, she has decided to share it with the rest of the world, just as they had shared with her.

As the author explains, the heartfelt vignettes in her book were collected immediately following the events of 9/11.

“I was driving home to my Grandmother’s house in Michigan and I noticed that everybody I met along the way had something unique to say about what had just happened. I decided to contact friends and acquaintances around the world and ask them to send me their own individual perspectives on the events. I quickly came to realize that everyone had the same questions, care for each other and passion for unity,” says Manuell, a successful writer and actor.

Continuing, “I ended up with a diverse and unique collection of writings from around the world, with each contributor obviously grappling with the enormity of the event. Thirteen years later, I have a compellation of the impressions that people had at exactly the same moment – and lovingly compiled them to create an insightful reflection of where humanity was at this exact moment in time.”

Manuell hopes that every reader will take something deeply-personal away from her book.

“Some will use it as a primary source as to what happened on that day, while some will use it to draw strength and inspiration for their own lives. Through words and images we’ve captured a piece of history that is now capsuled for future generations. It’s extremely powerful,” she adds.

A portion of all proceeds will be donated to 9/11 charities, adding a further charitable component to this already heartfelt project.

‘Standing Tall: The Emails, Journals, Creative Writings and Articles of 9/11/2001’ is due to release on January 15th, 2014. For more information, visit: http://www.standingtallbook.net.
