The Do's and Dont's of Chainsaw & Blower Use

Warren, OH -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/31/2016 -- When leaves begin to fall and twigs are scattered across the yard, it's time for a fall cleanup. Chainsaws and blowers are great assets to have on hand to make fall cleanup easier and faster.

Chainsaws can be used to cleanup fallen trees resulting from an autumn storm. They can also be used to prepare wood for an upcoming camping trip or for warm fires during the winter months. Chainsaws can be used to trim tree limbs or for the complete above-ground removal of a tree. It is essential to wear proper safety gear and to be aware of the surroundings before starting a chainsaw and during use.

Blower equipment is also essential during the autumn season. Blowers take much of the hard labor out of cleanup and are very versatile pieces of equipment. There are a variety of blowers to fit any comfort level; handheld, backpack and walk behind. Electric and gas powered blowers options are vast; from weight, engine type and capabilities. Prior to selecting a blower or chainsaw, it is important to consider the overall landscape that has to be maintained, the manner in which the blower will be used and the user's physical capabilities.

Handheld and backpack blowers are most commonly used for leaf cleanup. They are also great for clearing beneath bushes, shrubs and other hard to reach areas. Gutter kits can be purchased for some models to help with the daunting task of cleaning out gutters. Blowers can also be used to blow grass clippings off of driveways and walkways as well as creating that neat and polished look. Interestingly, consider using a blower to speed up the drying time and reduce water spots from occurring on washed motorcycles or other vehicles. Remove a clothes dryer vent tube and blow out excess lint for a more efficient and safe dryer. A walk behind blower is great for drying a freshly scrubbed garage floor or porch. A gas powered blower has enough power to blow snow away from walkways, doors and basement window wells. The warm air flow will also help melt snow.
