Boston, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/09/2014 -- Inbound tourism in Turkey saw 8% volume growth in 2013, compared with only 1% growth the previous year. The major reason behind the slow growth in 2012 was the economic crisis in European countries, leading to a decline in the growth in arrivals from all European countries. In 2013, however, growth increased, stemming largely from package holidays and families with children aged 0-14. The majority of package tours came from Germany and the UK.

Industry Prospects

Over the forecast period the number of arrivals to Turkey is expected to increase by a volume CAGR of 6%, compared with a CAGR of 5% in the review period. Incoming tourist receipts are predicted to register a value CAGR of 6% over the forecast period at constant 2013 prices, whilst in the review period the CAGR was 4%. This will mostly be due to increased destination promotion activities by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Attractive airline and package holiday offers and the increasing number of modern hotels will play an important role in this growth. In addition, the increasing number and variety of amenities to attract foreign visitors, including entertainment facilities, shopping centres and tourist attractions, museums in particular, will stimulate growth.
