The brothers are Schmidt’s maternal grandfather’s family, and the Kapernick Family History Book will detail their lives as German citizens who immigrated to Australia.

Schmidt has been researching his family’s history for over 13 years. He fondly refers to his interest in Family History Research as a “consuming passion” that started when his grandfather began telling him stories about his childhood experiences. Schmidt started the project as a way to preserve his heritage and family history for current and future family members. Schmidt believes that ordinary citizens contribute to the successes of a country as much as politicians and famous people do, especially because the culture and history of the families that inhabit the country is very important.

By understanding our family history, we can understand who we are.”

At this time, Schmidt is accepting donations to fund his Family History Research and book campaign. His goal is to raise $12,000 by April 7, 2014. The books will be available in colorful printed, DVD, and eBook versions.
