Indoor gardens from GradenIn make it radically easy to grow organic herbs at home.

The founders were originally inspired by their frustration with buying a new basil plant every week, only to see it die from lack of care. They decided to build something that would require zero maintenance to grow organic herbs at home.

With these garden kits, there are no hidden purchases. Take the kit out of the box, add water, and start growing. They've even pre-planted the seeds for users. Built for busy people, these gardens can survive for up to three weeks with no attention. When it is time to change the water, the garden will flash a light as a reminder.

The first version was made at home out of recycled plastic bottles and quite a bit of duct tape. It worked well, but wasn't very pretty to look at. The idea was then taken to a couple of designers who teach at the Royal College of Art. Over several months, the team went through tens of iterations to find a design that would look beautiful in a tiny London flat.

The goal of this project is ensure that even the busiest urbanites can grow fresh, organic herbs at home. GardenIn has decided to base their entire production and supply chain systems in the UK for this first batch of units. This will enable them to both maximize their ability to oversee operations and minimize the lag time in getting the gardens to users. Elimination of cross-country shipping, customs and forwarding of parts has enabled them to reduce the production time by over a month.
