More Government Inquiries into Psychiatry’s Drugs

Vancouver, BC, Canada -- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/10/2006 --In only the past year and a half, 18 government warnings by five different countries including Switzerland, England, Canada, the US and Europe have been issued on the previously undisclosed dangers of psychiatric drugs citing side effects of drug dependence, addiction, mania, hostility, aggression, psychosis, suicide and violence.

The latest inquiry came in the form of an FDA report this week. It stated that 25 deaths from various psychiatric drugs have occurred between 1999 and 2003. Nineteen of them were children. The report also detailed 54 cases of serious cardiovascular problems, including heart attack, stroke, hypertension, palpitations and arrhythmia, in adults and children

The drugs in question were amphetamines such as Adderall, and methylphenidates, sold as Ritalin, Concerta, Methylin and Metadate for children and adults with ADHD. The FDA reports that, right now, about two million American children and one million adults are prescribed ADHD drugs each month.

On September 29 2005, Health Canada asked all the makers of drugs used for ADHD to submit data from all clinical trials and post-marketing reports by the end of 2005. The data will be examined following its submission this year. The drugs that will be reviewed are Concerta, Adderall XR, Dexadrine, Ritalin and Attenade; drugs which are given to children for ADHD.

Brian Beaumont, President of the Vancouver chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights stated, Adderall, methylphenidates (sold as Ritalin), Concerta, Methylin and Metadate are all drugs prescribed for a condition know as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder but the fact is; there is nothing in any medical or scientific literature that confirms the existence of (ADHD). It was invented by a handful of psychiatrists by a show of hands at an American Psychiatric Association meeting in the 80’s. Since that time psychiatry has turned it’s invention into a multi-billion dollar industry. Thus, psychiatrists are labeling and drugging a non-existent malady which are indictable offences, fraud and child abuse.’

Prozac, another of psychiatry’s drugs, also came under fire last week when new information linked it and other similar antidepressants to a life-threatening lung problem in newborns

According to the New England Journal of Medicine, Infants had six times the expected risk of developing the lung disorder which resulted from mothers who took the drugs in the second half of pregnancy.

The psychiatric drugs under scrutiny are selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft.

One prevailing psychiatric theory (key to psychotropic drug and amphetamine type drug sales) is that mental disorders result from a chemical imbalance in the brain. As with this and psychiatry’s other theories, there is no biological or other evidence to prove them. Representative of a large group of medical and biochemistry experts, Elliot Valenstein, Ph.D., author of Blaming the Brain says: “There are no tests available for assessing the chemical status of a living person's brain.

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights was established in 1969 by the Church of Scientology to investigate and expose psychiatric violations of human rights. For more information and a complete list of recent government inquiries go to www.cchr.org.
