From Downing Street to Nottingham: Creative Company Offers New Year Gift to Local Businesses

Nottingham, UK -- (ReleaseWire) -- 12/18/2014 --Nottingham creative design and brand communications specialist, The New Fat, joined 99 other small businesses from around the UK at Downing Street on Friday 5th December in advance of Small Business Saturday. Addressed by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osbourne, the one hundred business champions shared ideas to support, inspire and promote small businesses throughout the country. As part of Small Business Saturday and in the spirit of Christmas, The New Fat is providing a free branding workshop to local small businesses early in the New Year.

Represented by Director, Debbie Mawhinney, The New Fat was selected from thousands of applicants, all of whom were required to submit a video expressing how they believe small businesses should be encouraged to flourish. The 100 enthusiastic business representatives mingled and shared plans for their Small Business Saturday events. A Christmas-style market saw some of the businesses displaying, promoting and selling products and services where attendees were joined by entrepreneur, Baroness Karren Brady who features in the BBC's The Apprentice.

Established in 1999, The New Fat has become one of Nottingham's most recognised creative design companies. It has provided organisations including Bombardier, B&Q and Penguin Books with innovative, outsourced design services that their clients need to develop and communicate their brands effectively. The company's services include; brand consultancy, concept development, art-working, prototype production, print management, photography, copywriting and translation services. The company attributes its success to its friendly approach, unparalleled enthusiasm, boundless dedication and an endeavour to thoroughly understand clients' brand objectives.

The New Fat's Debbie Mawhinney commented on the event: "It was very rewarding to be recognised for our support of small businesses and meeting so many likeminded business owners from around the country was inspiring, to say the least. George Osbourne delivered a rousing ten minute speech on the importance of Small Business Saturday and the rest of the day was enjoyed networking and sampling some great food in the grand surroundings of Downing Street". Debbie added: "I left Downing Street very enthused and with even more ideas for our Small Business Saturday event which will now take place in January".

Small businesses from around the country planned events that took place on Saturday 6th December, ranging from promotions and activities to attract more clients and customers. Last year's Small Business Saturday made some 48 per cent of consumers aware of the day, who as a result spent in the region of £500m. This year more than 30,000 small businesses from around the UK have already engaged with Small Business Saturday through social media platforms, downloading marketing packs and posters to display at events and throughout their premises. With some 5.2 million UK small businesses, their importance to the economy is extremely significant and Small Business Saturday aims to leverage the support that these smaller organisations need to survive and flourish.

With support from the government, the Federation of Small Businesses, Association of Convenience Stores, along with brands including 02, Lloyds and NatWest banks, Small Business Saturday is reaching more and more people with its positive messaging. Add to the equation endorsement from celebrity entrepreneurs including Karren Brady, Theo Paphitis and Martha Lane Fox, this year's chain of events looks set to overtake the previous launch year.
