This Dancerie from Paris Launches a Kickstarter Campaign
Brooklyn, NY -- (ReleaseWire) -- 09/12/2017 --Tony Whitfield of the Whitfield Co Labs has proudly announced the launch of his all new project called This Dancerie. The Paris based company has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter and it is welcoming everyone to generously support this project by raising funds with pledges and donations. This Dancerie is a series of ten collaborative projects that are currently in various stages of their development beginning the presentation of two works in the next year, Paris, 1938 and New Love: 1910.
These ten collaborative projects look at instances in history when queer people have been involved in the critical moments of Paris's history that have reverberations today. Paris, 1938, explores the same sex relationship many believe led to the assassination that triggered Kristallnacht and a new level of persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany. A short film installation, Paris, 1938 will be featured in Nuit Blanche 2017, Paris' annual dusk to dawn citywide arts festival (presentation date: Oct 7, 2017.) New Love: 1910, looks at the boldness of desire that transcends traditional gender definitions in the context of a world that has been thrown out of kilter by, in that case, the catastrophic flood 1910 that submerged the City of Light. That project will result in an evening length theatre work that will be presented in LaMaMa Moves, the annual performance festival at New York's landmark avant garde theater, LaMaMa ETC (presentation dates: May 10, 11, 12 and 13, 2017) and in a yet to be confirmed Parisian venue. To make Paris, 1938 and New Love: 1910 a success, Whitfield CoLabs is raising a sum of $20,000 via Kickstarter and is welcoming everyone to generously support the project.
"This Dancerie explores Paris as the site of a queer century lived in public in a multi-event, multi-site, multi-media project that explores the ways in which gay men have created public expressions of their desire and resistance despite prohibitions of mainstream culture. That vital and resolute presence and difference in the world has withstood and, in critical ways, shifted the course of history." said Tony Whitfield while introducing the project on Kickstarter. "I want to build an audience for this project and create a following that goes far beyond borders." he added.
The Kickstarter Campaign is located on the web at: www.kickstarter.com/projects/14838100/welcome-to-this-dancerie-a-century-of-queer-life-i and supporters from around the world can back this project that can range from $1 to $5000 or more. Each pledge offers a great reward and more details are available on the Kickstarter campaign page of the project.
