Third Global Forum on Pharmaceutical Anti Counterfeiting to Focus on Interface Between Authentication Technologies, Manufacturers and Enforcement

London, UK -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/14/2006 -- The dates for the third biennial global forum on Pharmaceutical Anti Counterfeiting have been announced by Reconnaissance in London. The next conference will take place in Prague, Czech Republic on March 13-15 2007.

The first and second Global Forums were held in 2002 in Geneva and 2005 in Paris respectively. Participants at both of the two previous conferences stressed the importance of action and called in particular for increased corporate responsibility and concerted international action to fight pharmaceutical counterfeiting.

The pharmaceutical market, possibly more than any other, requires a level of security that ensures consumer confidence. Important technologies that have become available to the industry in recent years include optical pigments, microprint and magnetic threads, RFID and EMID technology.

In the four years since the first Global Forum, there has been significant progress at national and international level in programmes aimed at combating pharmaceutical counterfeits. The World Health Organisation (WHO) IMPACT proposal is just the latest in a series of initiatives that have involved the Council of Europe and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well as WHO. For a full report on the WHO IMPACT proposal, please see the previous issue of Authentication News.

However, the Global Forum on Pharmaceutical Anti Counterfeiting remains the only event that brings together all stakeholders with a contribution to make in combating counterfeit pharmaceuticals. Thus the forum is a unique opportunity to exchange experiences and ideas between service providers, manufacturers, patients' groups and health care providers.

Important stakeholders include manufacturers, health care professionals, patients, drug regulators and anti-counterfeiting technology and service providers.
