Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products 2012 - New Study Released
Illicit trade in tobacco costs governments over US$40 billion per annum and generates black market sales to the benefit of criminals of US$36 billion. Illicit sales, excluding China, have grown by a quarter over the last five years, in response to higher duty-paid prices. This report analyses illicit trade and measures by industry and governments to fight it, by region and major country, and asks the question "can the fight against illicit trade be won?"
