Research at the University of Sydney over recent months involving shrinkable plastics – often in the form of shrink wrap – has drawn increased attention to the packing material, as well as its ability to be used in a variety of ways. Scientists have been using sheets of shrinkable plastics and adding Teflon to create a new superhydrophobic material: a plastic film which resists water. The result has been a gold-coloured film which water rolls away from – a highly exciting scientific development carried out using shrink wrap. It is thought that although the experimented material will not be commercially available for a while, more people may be tempted to try the properties of shrink wrap as product packaging.

Business analysts have been predicting a major trend in product packaging set to feature this year; personalised and patterned shrink wrap. This is following on from a number of notable businesses trying the technique in the run-up to Christmas; often to considerable positive reception. For example, Highland Spring, a popular brand of bottled water, launched festive shrink wrap which applied to many of its product packs. This proved especially popular and it is in turn expected that more businesses, particularly those involved in food in drink, will use shrink wrap as a design element, not just packaging.

Green Packaging is using responsible technologies to manufacture the packaging solutions that allow companies to produce, store, and transport metal-based products without rusting. Whether it's nuts and bolts, electronic components or large manufactured pieces like metal castings, firearms, automotive parts, or metal stampings, packaging that protects against oxidation while offering a responsible alternative to traditional oils and greases, VCI bags and VCI paper is invaluable in today's marketplace. Corrosion can ruin entire shipments of hard-to-replace, expensive metal products.

ESD, short for electrostatic discharge, is a major problem for all companies that manufacture electronics, as components like microchips are extremely vulnerable to it. That's why these companies use special ESD protected products designed to eliminate the conduction of static electricity during the manufacture and transportation of components and electronics. In terms of costs, ESD protection is a major factor since the losses related to static electricity ruining large amounts of expensive components are huge. That's why General Partition is excited to announce that, as a part of their commitment to being a full-service partition provider, they also offer ESD partitions that have been designed specifically for the manufacture and transportation of ESD sensitive items.
