Paint The Parks Continues the Tradition of Arts for the Parks

PaintAmerica, a national, non-profit organization to support and promote the visual arts, has announced the Call to Entries for the 2007 “Paint The Parks” Art Competition. The competition was developed to fill the void created when the Arts for the Parks program was recently discontinued. Paint The Parks will attract many of our nations’ top artists, with a $10,000 purchase award for the Grand Prize. In addition, The Grand Canyon Association and the Jack Dudley Memorial Fund Purchase Award has been established. This $3,500 Purchase Award will recognize the top choice of all entries depicting the Grand Canyon. Many other cash prizes and purchase awards will also be available, making Paint The Parks one of the country’s richest art competitions. Portland, Maine-based Atlantis Found Publishing Inc. announces the launch of “WORDS WITHOUT VOICES” (™) Online Album Art Competition. The contest seeks digital visual artwork submissions to illustrate the song lyrics of Conceptual Artist James Thomas Fielding.

Chesapeake Painting Wins PaintAmerica Top100 Competition

PaintAmerica, a national, non-profit organization to support artists and promote the visual arts, has announced that Deborah Chapin’s “Indian Summer” is the Grand Prize Winner of the 2006 PaintAmerica Top100 Art Competition. Chapin’s work, a 16” x 34” oil painting, depicts the Chesapeake wetlands and grasses in late summer. Chapin is a Chesapeake area resident, living in Seabrook, Maryland.

Minnesota Artist Helping Wildlife Through Art

Bonnie Latham's watercolor rendering of a canvasback has been selected as the 2007 Minnesota Ducks Unlimited Sponsor Print Artist of the Year. Her artwork will be reproduced as a limited edition print and distributed to 2007 sponsor members of the Minnesota Ducks Unlimited.

The San Diego Visual Art's Network and SanDiegoArtist.com has established the San Diego Art Prize which is given annually to three established and three emerging artists who have exhibited outstanding achievement in the field of Visual Arts. The Prize recipients will receive a cash grant and an exhibition at the L Street Gallery in the Downtown Omni Hotel. Each exhibition will pair an established artist with an emerging artist. The final exhibition will run from June 2007 - September 2007 and will feature work by all recognized recipients of the SD ART PRIZE.

San Diego's Van Vechten Creative Selected to Re-design Website for Prestigious McCallum Theatre

The McCallum Theatre has chosen Van Vechten Creative, an award-winning graphic, multimedia and strategic marketing firm, to re-design its website. Slated for launch in early Spring 2007, the new site will incorporate the latest web technology and serve as a marketing tool for McCallum Theatre.

International Art and Literature Exhibition goes to China

Irish artist Fion Gunn and English writer Kay Sexton are travelling to China to present a collaborative exhibition of paintings and texts which focuses on the public gardens of four cities, Beijing, Dublin, London and Paris. Guan Donghai, a Chinese glass sculptor is collaborating with them for the Beijing show. Tsinghua University in Beijing will host Green Thought in an Urban Shade which will run from 20 September until 4 October 2006. The preview will be formally opened by His Excellency Declan Kelleher, Irish Ambassador to China on Monday 18 September at 19.30.
