Will Sobel, CEO of System Insights said, “To achieve a true 4.0 revolution, we will need to instrument and collect huge amounts of data from machine tools and tie the success of the process, quality, into a feedback loop to identify where in the process defects were introduced. The defect detection must be done as close as possible to point at which the defect was introduced so there is the least amount of interference that may make attribution more complex. “

The recent hot topic for the venture capitalists and the industry visionaries is the Internet of Things (IoT). According to Will Sobel, CEO with System Insights, “They have suddenly realized there are more things than people, and unlike people, things produce data. Things are the new buzzwords, but nobody has figured out how to make real money from things or what is the value of a thing. Manufacturing keeps coming up as an area of focus, but again, while the broad strokes are there, the ideas are not grounded. There has been a lot of focus on security and protocols, very necessary, but less focus on how to generate the business value from things.”

According to the United States Census Bureau, in November 2013, America increased exports to $194.9 billion, an increase of $1.8 billion over the previous month. Increases occurred in industries such as capital goods and industrial supplies and materials while decreases were seen in consumer goods as well as foods, feeds, and beverages.
