New Report Available: Travel Retail in Singapore

LogoTravel retail in Singapore showed continued growth in 2013 despite the slow global economy. As the Singapore dollar remained strong, outbound travel to long haul destinations such as Europe increased, thus, bringing more business to travel retail. As consumers became well-educated, increased demand for exotic destinations such as Africa and South America was observed. Travel planning to exotic destinations by consumers usually requires the expertise of travel agents as consumers are not as familiar as compared to regional destinations. Not to mention, the existence of technology and online media allowed consumers to gain easy access to travel information, promotions and advertising.

New Market Research Report: Emirates Airlines in Travel and Tourism (World)

LogoEmirates Airlines continues to experience strong growth, and has recently added 18 new routes without compromising passenger load factor. The airline benefits from Dubai's status as a transit hub, connecting the East to the West on long haul routes, with stopovers at Dubai International. Emirates nonetheless faces ongoing criticism and hostile policies by European and US carriers, hindering its growth in these regions. It is also facing strong competition from other Gulf-based airlines.

New Report Available: Tourism Flows Domestic in Turkey

LogoDomestic tourism demonstrated 21% current value growth and 11% growth in the number of trips in 2013. This compared with a CAGR of only 6% in current value terms and a negative CAGR of 3% in the number of trips over the review period. Whilst in value terms domestic tourism grew over the review period with a dip in 2009 due to the recession, the number of trips declined during the economic recession in 2008, and also in 2011 and 2012, when the economy did not perform very well. In 2013, however, the number of trips increased for two reasons; first, as a result of the improved economic conditions, and second, due to the long Eid and Ramadan holidays, which coincided with the summer period, which meant people took longer holidays in the summer of 2013.

Tourist Attractions in the United Kingdom - New Market Report

LogoThere was a significant increase in arrivals to the UK in 2013. The legacy of the London 2012 Olympic Games, alongside focused marketing from VisitBritain in Russia, China and Brazil, certainly played a part in this. Additionally, a number of royal events in the second half of the review period, such as the Queen's Jubilee, the royal wedding and the birth of a royal baby all helped to raise the profile of the UK's cultural heritage internationally, as has the worldwide success of the television series Downton Abbey. This has been reflected in the UK's increased international competitiveness. Those specific attractions that are internationally associated with the country - and therefore have a large proportion of international visitors, such as the Tate Modern - have benefited from this. Domestically the trend towards the "staycation" continued in 2013, meaning that there was the further growth of domestic visitors to tourist attractions, whether this be driven by those tourists on longer-term visits to different regions of the country, or specifically by daytrips.

NYC's Grand Central Terminal Turns on Lights, Cameras, Action & Ghosts

Not many people may remember back in 1963 the start of Walter Cronkite's revolutionary 30 minute evening news broadcast and even fewer people may know that the CBS news dept. and studios were once nestled above Vanderbilt Hall -- the former main waiting hall of NYC's Grand Central Terminal. But Pete and Stew Kandel noted paranormal investigators and licensed NYC tour guides aka the “Ghost Doctors” -- whose sought after ghost hunting tours of Grand Central have given New Yorkers a chance to participate in a real paranormal experience right in the heart of this iconic terminal -- are more than aware of the old CBS television studio's former digs both from a historical and paranormal perspective.

Now Available: Sub-Saharan Africa How to Maximise Tourism Potential

LogoSub-Saharan African tourism has grown by an average of 4.3% per year since 2008, outpacing the global average of 3.2%, this growth is expected to continue reaching over 45 million arrivals by 2018. Increased FDI, new trade partnerships, access to international capital and rise of the middle classes will help the continent live up to its tourism potential. However, governments and stakeholders need to develop the right strategies and regulations to maximise the benefits of tourism.

Tourism Flows Inbound in Singapore - New Market Report

LogoInternational arrivals grew by 5% in 2013; a two percentage point decline from 2012. This was attributed to the drop in business travellers as there was a cut in corporate business budgets in general, resulting in fewer business trips. In addition, key source countries like Indonesia and Malaysia displayed sluggish arrival growth as the Singapore currency remained strong. Slower growth in tourism receipts was the next implication of the strong currency exchange rate as the cost of travelling to Singapore became slightly higher. Nonetheless, positive growth recorded was an indication that Singapore's tourism strategy remained relevant and productive.

Travel Retail in the United Kingdom - New Market Research Report

LogoTravel retail sales rose by 2% to GBP31 billion in 2013, posting a second consecutive year of growth as the UK economy recovers and consumer confidence rises. However, the growth rate remained modest as people continued to try to economise and opt for low-cost solutions and last-minute deals. Although the economic outlook has improved, demand remains stagnant and consumer cautious, as wages have not yet caught up with inflation. In this context, value for money is a priority for consumers. Domestic trips declined slightly, partly as the trend for the staycation, which experienced a boost during the credit crunch has worn off, and partly because often travelling abroad to destinations such as Spain, Greece or Turkey on a packaged deal can be considerably cheaper than holidaying in Britain. This way, the number of trips outbound went up by 2% in 2013.

Travel Accommodation in Singapore - New Market Report

LogoTravel accommodation value sales grew by 3% in 2013 with the opening of 13 new hotels, adding more than 2,900 hotel rooms to the national inventory. Average occupancy rate remained constant as tourism arrivals remained constant. Mid-tier and economy hotels performed well in 2013 as there was a shift towards middle-class accommodation for business travellers due to a tighter corporate travel budget, resulting in lower average daily rates. Another contributor to the slower performance in overall travel accommodation was the strong performance of the Singapore currency, squeezing consumer pockets and spending capacity.

"Tourism Flows Inbound in Turkey" Published

LogoInbound tourism in Turkey saw 8% volume growth in 2013, compared with only 1% growth the previous year. The major reason behind the slow growth in 2012 was the economic crisis in European countries, leading to a decline in the growth in arrivals from all European countries. In 2013, however, growth increased, stemming largely from package holidays and families with children aged 0-14. The majority of package tours came from Germany and the UK.
