Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society in Social Sciences proudly presents this year's third lecture in its Speaker Series. Dr. Richard Gregory Johnson III's presentation entitled "Why Social Equity in the 21st Century" will take us on a journey of understanding how and why this important philosophical concept needs to be incorporated into all aspects of a free society. The event will be presented live on Zoom on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. (ET). This event is open to members of Pi Gamma Mu and the public at no charge.

Dr. Johanna Bishop of Wilmington University (Del.) will be the guest speaker for Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society's online Speaker Series on Friday, January 26, 2024. Bishop will speak on the topic of Human Trafficking.

As incarceration rates climb, so do rates of recidivism. The successful reintegration of prisoners into society pivots on effective social support services. The most important aspects are housing, employment, and medical services. Although these services are widely available through state and federal government services, most formerly incarcerated people do not qualify. Thus, most services that are available to ex-felons are sponsored by families, private people, groups, and companies. On Friday, November 18, 2022, the Pi Gamma Mu Speaker Series officially launched and highlighted the expertise of Pi Gamma Mu president, Dr. Susan Kinsella. Kinsella's lecture focused on Animal Assisted Interventions. Throughout the 2022-23 academic year, four Pi Gamma Mu faculty will showcase their expertise as they discuss new and important themes in the social sciences.

The Association of Community Employment Programs for the Homeless (ACE), a leading provider of workforce development and social support services for New Yorkers who are experiencing homelessness to achieve economic independence honored their new graduating class from ACE's vocational rehabilitation program, Project Comeback.

Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society in Social Sciences is pleased to present a new Speaker Series open to members and non-members alike. On September 30, 2022, at 3:00 pm (ET), Pi Gamma Mu's president, Dr. Susan Kinsella, President of Pi Gamma Mu, will kick off the series with a lecture focusing on animal-assisted interventions in the field of Human Services.

I teach at a small college with approximately six hundred traditional and online students. The college is known primarily for its nursing program, and for many years, the only honor society that existed was for nursing students. New programs developed over the years, and in 2011, I considered how a Pi Gamma Mu chapter would be ideal since all majors require social science courses. In addition, for students who qualified, a Pi Gamma Mu chapter would be a great way to recognize them regardless of their programs. I met with department chairs, program directors, and the Vice President for Academics to explain why I thought Pi Gamma Mu would be a good fit for our small college. This included a list of reasons that can be found on the Pi Gamma Mu website at https://www.pigammamu.org/professors.html. Foremost among the reasons I gave is that Pi Gamma Mu encourages "interdisciplinary thinking about society, humanity, and public affairs" and promotes the social sciences as a means "to uphold and nurture scholarship, leadership, and service." Both of the statements supported the institution's mission statement well. Furthermore, Pi Gamma Mu's focus on the social sciences includes a broad range of academic fields including "anthropology, criminal justice, economics, cultural geography, history, international relations, social philosophy, social work, sociology, political science, and psychology." This meant that students, regardless of their major, who took at least twenty hours of social science credits and had a "B" or better average in those courses could be recognized for their academic success. Indeed, students from a variety of programs, in addition to majors that are specific to the social sciences, have met the requirements and been inducted over the past ten years of our chapter's existence. Finally, since our college enrollment is small, it made more sense to have an honor society that would collectively serve outstanding students in fields such as criminal justice, human services, and psychology as opposed to having separate honor societies. This multidisciplinary approach has been a major factor as to why a Pi Gamma Mu chapter is a great fit for a small college.

Although virtual conferences have become common over the past couple of years, the 2021 Pi Gamma Mu Virtual Triennial International Convention lived up to its billing both virtually and internationally. Attendees experienced keynote addresses, paper presentations, the opportunity to participate in the popular Leadership Development Program, and a variety of poster presentations.

Because of this wonderful generosity, the COF Disaster Relief Program was able to distribute a total of over $18,000 in gift cards to 48 families or households.

All three companies are certified Minority Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) with the city of New York.

The 2021 Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society in Social Sciences Triennial International Convention will be held online this November 3-6, 2021. This will be a fully online, virtual experience featuring student research presentations, speakers, a leadership development program, and much more.

Presented by Black Nonbelievers, the Black Skeptics Group, and the Women's Leadership Project, the Women of Color Beyond Belief Conference is the only national secular forum exclusively focused on the perspectives of women of color atheists, agnostics, humanists, freethinkers and skeptics. The conference highlights the social justice work of women of color within the secular community, and provides an intersectional, feminist vision of leadership and activism in secularism. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the conference was rescheduled from 2020, and an online streaming option has been added.

The ministry is dedicated to helping all callers, irrespective of their financial struggles. They have a team of experienced and friendly callers who are always ready to listen to clients' concerns.

Founded in 2003, the Lighthouse Network is a nonprofit ministry that operates a 24x7 helpline for people with mental health concerns. The network also offers online life growth resources for those struggling with addiction of some kind or another psychological issue. Through its helpline, the Lighthouse Network supports and guides suffering individuals to find peace, joy, and freedom. This further helps these individuals in achieving their God-given potential. The helpline has a caring, expert, and experienced staff that finds the proper treatment and treatment center a patient may require.
