This introductory event features Nancy Baumgarten, entertaining speaker and author, discussing empowerment for young people and adults. Near-death stories are now the subject for many best-selling books and even blockbuster movies. The International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS) announces Susan Amsden as the new local facilitator for near-death events in the Raleigh/Durham area. Amsden helped create one of the largest IANDS groups in the United States and plans to do the same in the Raleigh/Durham area where she now lives. In fact, Susan Amsden is now working with the national office of IANDS, located in Durham. She looks forward to helping grow a large and successful IANDS local outreach in the Triad area.

Dan Bruer has been appointed Director of Development with The Triangle Land Conservancy. The Make-a-Wish Foundation of Eastern North Carolina, an organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions, recently announced the appointment of Ziva Raney as its new Director of Development. In her new role, Ms. Raney will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of fundraising, including developing strategies and initiatives for increasing funding. Upon the completion of the merger between the MAWF organizations of Eastern and Western NC in 2009, she will assume the role of Regional Executive Director.

Angelica Oberleithner has been appointed Assistant Director for the Durham’s Partnership for Children, a Smart Start Initiative. Ms. Oberleithner was formerly the Program Director at the Orange County Partnership for Young Children. Her experience includes serving as Director of the PMHCC Best Practices Institute (BPI) in Philadelphia, PA, where her work focused on Treatment Foster Care reform, a key initiative in the Department of Human Services' permanency reform agenda.
